Crazed

In parched October I walked
past the grain bin
toward the grassy basin of the pond.
No mirror of sky there,
Instead, a Chickasaw pattern of cracks each
deep enough to hold five fingers, splayed.
I knelt and touched
searching for the bones of the earth.
